قرر مجلس التعليم العالي التركي رفع هذا الحظر إثر ضغط من حزب العدالة والتنمية الحاكم، أدى الى ارتياح بالغ في أوساط الطالبات. وقد عانت الكثير من الطالبات المحجبات في تركيا في السنوات الأخيرة حظر الحجاب في الجامعات الحكومية، واضطر الكثير منهن إلى السفر إلى الخارج لإكمال تعليمهن لرفضهن خلع حجابهن.
