على خلاف الكثير من الأوروبيين الذين تأثرت حياتهم بدرجات الحرارة المنخفضة وتساقط الثلوج، قرر أعضاء من جمعية السباحة الجليدية في ألمانيا الاستمتاع بالجو المناسب لممارسة رياضتهم.
في الصين، والتي وجه إليها البابا بنديكتوس السادس عشر انتقادا شديدا بسبب ما اعتبره تضييقا على المسيحيين من أتباع الكنيسة الكاثوليكية، أقيمت احتفالات بعيد الميلاد هذا العام، ولكن بأسلوب وشكل مميزين.
احتفل مسيحيو الكاثوليك في السودان ومعظمهم من سكان الجنوب بأعياد الميلاد التي حضرها هذا العام عدد قلً بكثير عن الأعوام السابقة بسبب مغادرة عدد كبير منهم إلى الجنوب للتصويت في استفتاء التاسع من يناير المقبل.

وأعلنت حالة الطوارئ في الكثير من الولايات الشرقية مع توقعات بوصول سمك الثلوج إلى أكثر من أربعين سنتيمترا وهبوب رياح تزيد سرعتها عن الخمسين كيلومترا في الساعة.
